| Many
webmasters overlook reciprocal links. They believe getting
their sites linked to in other webpages' links section will
not drive them a noticeable amount of traffic. But the truth
is exactly the opposite.
I
have sites that receive a large majority of their traffic
from other sites that just have my site in their "Links"
section. The way to get a lot of traffic from other sites
is to chose the right sites. Obviously the sites that are
going to send you the most traffic are the ones that have
a lot of traffic themselves. So, email the webmasters of
sites which you think your site's link would fit well. In
the email tell them who you are and where you are from and
that you saw their site and that you would like to exchange
links with them. Ask them what they would like their link
description to say and suggest a description for your own
site. Make sure to be respectful of the webmaster you want
the link from. Don't ask for to much from them and always
offer them the same service and/or something better than
what you are asking for in return. For example, if I wanted
a specific site to link to Zettas.com I would email the
webmaster telling them who I was and that I would like to
exchange links in the Zettas links sections, I would compliment
their site, and I would offer them a second link on one
of my other webpages. Offering the second link would make
it even more tempting for the webmaster to accept your offer.
Reciprocal
links will also help drive traffic to you indirectly. Many
search engines and their respective databases use linking
as part of their algorithm to determine how high a site
will be listed in their search results. The more sites that
are linked to your site the better your results in the search
engine listing will be. So not only will you be getting
new traffic from sites that link to you but you will also
eventually get more traffic from search engines.
